Hi, Reader! If you are celebrating Thanksgiving this week, I have a few great ideas for you to stock up your pantry while you're doing it - killing two 'birds' with one stone, so to speak! You know that you're already going to be doing a lot of prep work, so once you have those tools out, the cutting boards, the food processors, and maybe some extra help, be prepared to do just a little more so that you can begin to fill your pantry! Here are some ways you can prep for Thanksgiving AND stock your pantry:(click on any of the blue linked words to get to the tutorial) Bread Crumbs: Drying bread out for your famous stuffing? Make an extra bit to dry in your dehydrator for Christmas or later in the year! You can do seasoned bread crumbs, plain bread crumbs or croutons out of ANY bread you have!) Onions: This is definitely a game-changer in prep. I like to use my food processor to finely chop them, and toss them in the dehydrator for use all year long. And if you're already going to be doing some, do a few more! Celery: I do this much the same as I do onions now. Rough chop in the food processor, a little skillet work with no fat (as opposed to blanching), and into the dehydrator they go! Cranberry sauce: I admit, I do love a jellied cranberry sauce goop for Thanksgiving. And I always have a can or two extra to make some treats for the rest of the weekend! Cranberries: If you are a traditionalist and make your own cranberry sauce from scratch, get a few more bags, run them through a food processor or do a simple syrup blanch and get them ready for the year for orange cranberry muffins or chicken salad! Marshmallows: If you're making your great-auntie's famous sweet potato casserole, which has a massive amount of marshmallows on it, buy a few extra bags and dehydrate them! You'll be able to use them as Christmas gifts or for hot cocoa. Of course, any of the vegetables and fruits that you are prepping for the day's feast can be dehydrated to use for later. And if you're like my grandmother, fruit salad was a big deal for the Thanksgiving table! You can get ahead and dry those extra oranges for wreath making or simmering pot gifts by drying them and having them all ready for your gift giving! You can always check out the 200 Best Dehydrating Recipes section on my site to get a list of them all! Until next time... Nevertheless, she preserved! P.S.
