Day 3: Taco Soup in a JarTaco Soup in a Jar is one of my favorite meals that I can put up for my family. My oldest son and I love it, and I can whip one up for a meal and send the leftovers home with him. I make this from all dehydrated foods (including the rice and beans), to make it a quicker meal. I can use as much broth/water as I want to make it as soupy or as stewy as I want. These were also great when my Dad was living alone in the country and I could make sure he had great meals ready to go all the time!
Ideas for Packaging• Glass jars (canning jars, recycled airtight glass jars) • Mylar bags • Large soup mugs wrapped in plastic for single-serving (short-term only) • If you are giving a soup in a jar that needs a piece to cook longer or shorter (pasta, raw rice), you can package those in a separate baggie, place on top of the rest of the product in the jar, and close. • Print off a cute tag with instructions for rehydrating and additional ingredients they may love. TipMany recipes suggest freeze-dried foods. Simply replace that with dehydrated foods—they work the same. The only time I suggest using freeze-dried foods is with proteins (meats and cheese).
