Wild Wacky Weather - Are You Ready with Soup?

Hi, Reader!

If you are going to experience the big winter weather event happening this weekend, tell me how you're going to prepare for it. Are you:

  • Panic-buying all the bread, milk, and TP
  • Relying on what you already have stored
  • Somewhere in the middle?

I'm in the middle

  • Relying on what we have, but also buying snacks and goodies to keep us from getting completely bored being stuck in the house for 3 days (potentially).
  • We're shoring up plumbing things this evening to make sure outside faucets are protected as best as we can.
  • I'm helping others at the church get the garden watered and covered to protect the winter crops we're testing out
  • And I'm getting all the laundry done today and early tomorrow so that we've got all of our warm clothes ready, and don't have to worry about running laundry (it's on our outside, north-facing wall).
  • And of course, getting dry wood into the garage so that we can grab it in case the power goes out and we can have a little heat in the living room.

Someone mentioned picking up a variety pack of snack-sized chocolate bars. Why didn't I think about that?!
No matter what - stay safe and warm this weekend! Make sure to protect your plumbing, cover your plants, and prepare for those things to help keep you warm and fed in the event of a power outage!

Soup in a Jar Ideas to Have Onhand for Bad Weather!

Tip: You can replace the dried asparagus with dried broccoli and add as much cheese as you love if you don't have the asparagus in store.

Tip: You can use dehydrated or freeze-dried meat - or skip it altogether!

What's your favorite soup that you could convert to a soup-in-a-jar mix?

Until next time...

Nevertheless, she preserved jar by jar!

P.S. Stay warm and checkin!

Hi, Reader! This weekend I was so excited to show you a great project to do in your dehydrator. It's great for putting up food quickly without fuss or prep, can help bring heat and humdity to your home when you need it (those of us in the winter now - especially after the ice storms), and bring security to your food pantry. But then...this happened. My dehydrator burned most of the trays of food. Some full trays, some just spots. While I have a theory of what might have happened, I can't test...

Hi, Reader! In the deepest part of winter, dehydrating food may not be on your mind. You've just survived the Holidays, the weather outside is frightful, and you just want to curl up and hibernate until Spring. However, it's important that we never remove ourselves so much from stocking our pantries that we completely miss out on a great time of year to put things away for when we really need them. Imagine one of these scenarios: Being socked in by snow or ice and can't get to a store for...

Hi, Reader! I know it's been a while since we've talked, and I'll apologize right up front. I'm in a season of life that is busy and a little stressful, and let some things slide. So I'll understand if you see this letter and think, who is this?! Just a reminder - I'm Darcy, and I really want to be your dehydrating BFF! But first, I want to know what's been going on in your life! How was your summer? How was the garden production? How's your pantry faring after a season of preservation? Let...
